Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide analogue of ACTH(4-10) developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics in Russia and approved for clinical use since 1991 for stroke treatment and cognitive impairment. Dolotov et al. demonstrated that a single intranasal dose produced 8-fold increases in BDNF protein in the hippocampus within 24 hours, persisting for 72 hours — positioning Semax as the most potent BDNF-elevating peptide studied to date in preclinical models.
