Oxytocin is a 9-amino-acid neuropeptide produced in the hypothalamus with over 10,000 published studies — one of the most researched neuropeptides in existence. The 2005 Kosfeld et al. landmark study in Nature demonstrated intranasal oxytocin doubled the percentage of subjects making maximum trust transfers in economic games. Research has since established applications in autism spectrum disorder, social anxiety, PTSD, and wound healing through amygdala inhibition and HPA axis dampening mechanisms.

In vitro and preclinical mechanistic observations
Reduces fear and threat-response activity in the amygdala — the mechanism behind its anxiolytic, trust-building, and PTSD symptom reduction properties.
Reduces cortisol secretion and blunts HPA stress response — explaining the calming effects documented in social anxiety disorder and PTSD human trials.
Modulates dopamine signalling in the nucleus accumbens, reinforcing social and affiliative behaviours through the mesolimbic reward pathway.
Oxytocin receptors on skin keratinocytes and fibroblasts mediate wound healing acceleration and inflammatory marker reduction observed in diabetic wound models.
Quantitative findings from published preclinical research
Compiled from Kosfeld et al. (2005), Guastella et al. (2009, 2010), Pitman et al. (2013). Human intranasal trials.
